 L'online gambling è un settore molto attrattivo ma caratterizzato da notevoli barriere all'entrata.
Lo studio di Ernst and Young conclude sottolineando che l'online gambling sia un settore molto attrattivo, caratterizzato tuttavia da notevoli barriere all'entrata. I fattori di attrattiva sono legati soprattutto a una domanda in costante crescita, costi variabili di vendita molto vicini allo zero, importante liquidità che nasce dalla giacenza dei clienti sui conti di gioco e la poss
bilità di offrire il prodotto a costi molto ridotti.
 Ma vanno segnalate anche le dovute criticità quali le barriere all'entrata (solo gli assegnatari di concessione sono autorizzati all'esercizio delle attività di gioco); l'elevata dipendenza dal contesto regolatorio (settore altamente regolamentato, con un'impostazione del legislatore italiano più restrittiva rispetto al contesto europeo) e il rischio di creazione di rendite di posizione con crescita del mercato in via di plafonamento.
